C is for... Call Of The Sea

Updated: Apr 17, 2024

Platform: Steam

Genre: Adventure

Completed: 13/12/2023

This would be the first game that I didn't already have installed and waiting. Because I was still in the early stages of the challenge I was looking for games that wouldn't take long to complete, just to make sure I could keep the drive to complete the challenge going.

Call Of The Sea fits the bill. I had read up on it first and saw that it wasn't too short but long enough that it didn't start to feel like it was dragging on.

The game is essentially a first-person perspective adventure game, centered around the heroine who is searching for her husband who went missing while on an expedition to locate a cure for her illness.

I remember the game mostly being a calm experience, with beautiful scenery, but some moments seemed tense - like danger was lurking and ready to strike. I won't lie, I was a bit disappointed when it was all hype and there was no actual danger at all.

However, the puzzles and story made up for that. The puzzles themselves were for the most part easy to solve, with clues being around the area to find and decode. I think there were only a couple that I had to re-investigate the clues or the area to see if I missed something before I finally solved it.

The story is mostly revealed through discovered letters and diaries, and you get to see what became of the expedition. For the most part, the story wasn't something that hadn't been done before. In fact, it wasn't difficult to work out what her illness was early on in the game.

But I will say that the story did have a final trick up its sleeve at the end, which I enjoyed. I genuinely had not expected it, and it was a fitting twist. Obviously, I won't reveal it here. That is something for you to experience should you choose to play it.

Next up will be - Dark Seed
